EAA of SA 2023 Convention International Young Eagles Day

Each year the EAA sets aside one day to encourage all EAA members and chapters to participate in the Young Eagles program and share their passion for aviation with a new generation.











The Young Eagles is a program created by the US Experimental Aircraft Association designed to give children between the ages of 8 to 17 an opportunity to experience flight in a general aviation airplane while educating them about aviation. The program is offered free of charge with costs covered by the volunteers.









Launched in 1992 the initial goal of the program was to fly one million children prior to the 100th anniversary of flight celebration (17 Dec. 2003). That goal was achieved on 13 November 2003 when more than 2 million children in 90 countries had their first flight experience making it the most successful program of its kind in history.



An ongoing annual goal of introducing 100,000 young people to the Young Eagles experience has been established.











This year dreams took flight for almost forty young people between the ages of 8 and 17 during the 30th annual International Young Eagles Day on Saturday, 10 June during the EAA of South Africa's annual convention hosted by the Middelburg Aviation Club.















Organised and expertly handled by the EAA's Young Eagles Coordinator Warren Lovell. The kids were flown at no cost by Rob Ossner, Marie Reddy, Richard Lovett, Jeremy Woods, Jason van Schalkwyk, Steve Brown, Rob Jonkers, Sean Cronin, Mike Puzey, Tarryn Myburgh, Daniel Ralefeta and Marc Clulow.
